(Jackson, Michigan) – Family Service & Children’s Aid Board of Directors announced today that Dr. Robert Powell, currently Deputy Director of FSCA, will succeed current Executive Director Judith Jove in his new role as the Chief Executive Officer, effective July 1, 2017. Ms. Jove is named Executive Consultant after 17 dedicated years as Executive Director of the agency. Jove will serve in her new capacity as an adviser ensuring a smooth transition of leadership responsibilities and supporting agency fund development activities until her retirement on October 31, 2017.

He is a key advocate for enhancing both the agency’s and community’s efforts in developing a trauma informed practice in the community.
“Bob is deeply committed to the agency’s mission of emotional health and actively works to ensure support is available to all that need it, especially vulnerable populations,” said Melissa Laird, President of the FSCA Board. “His understanding of the agency’s mission and programming, in counseling, child welfare and prevention combined with strong relationships locally and regionally, will serve the agency and community well.”
Powell received his Doctorate in Counselor Education from Western Michigan University in 2013. Prior to that, he earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Michigan State University and Wayne State University, respectively. Before joining Family Service & Children’s Aid, Bob worked with several community agencies, both public and private. He has been active with various initiatives and coalitions in the Jackson area since 1994, including Project Aware, the Behavioral Health Task Force, the Juvenile Justice Coalition, the Continuum of Care, the Trauma Informed Community Collaborative, and partnering with the Department of Health and Human Services, the United Way of Jackson and others. Recently, he has been active in community efforts to help schools and law enforcement work with traumatized youth in the “Handle with Care” initiative. Powell has also served during the past seventeen years as an adjunct professor at Baker College in the Human Services Department.
Ms. Jove retires in October after over 17 years at the helm of Family Service & Children’s Aid. “We appreciate the leadership and investment she has made in supporting FSCA in achieving a standard of excellence over the last seventeen years,” said Becky Billingsley, Vice-Chair of the FSCA Board. “Her passion and strength have provided a legacy we believe will continue through the duration of the agency’s work; supporting the strengthening of families served for many years to come”
