Foster Care Supportive Visitation and In-Home Parent Education
Home Again Program
Home Again is an in-home service for parents whose children have been in foster care for less than eight months and reunification is the goal. We provide a thirteen week parent education program using the Nurturing Parent curriculum. The program is designed to help parents improve their parenting skills and safely reunify the family in a timely manner.
Some of the skills we teach: child development, making good choices/parents as role models, importance of touch, developing empathy, managing and communicating feelings/managing anger and stress, positive parenting/understanding discipline, rewards and consequences, alternatives to spanking/rewards and consequences, the importance of routines/family rules and chore charts. We encourage fun activities because families should have fun together!
Referrals to the program must be made by Department of Human Services or private agency foster care case managers. The program serves Jackson, Hillsdale, Branch, Lenawee, Washtenaw, Livingston, and Monroe counties. Please contact Cynthia Spiess for more information, firstname.lastname@example.org or call 517-787-7920 extension 542.
