The Jackson Area Recovery Community (JARC) had an event at the MLK Jr. Center on May 22^nd, and FSCA was well represented. Kelly Beck, our Enhanced Women’s Specialty Peer Advocate/Case Manager, and Riley Kidd one of our SUD Case Managers spoke on the panel. Both were very compelling. They talked about the need for agencies like ours to be responsive to the unique needs of people of color in the Jackson recovery community. They were joined by Adam Gant (JARC Coordinator),  Myeisha (Uni) Cunningham (Lead Pastor/Raven-Brook Recovery Church), and Ashley Torrence (S.E. Michigan Works Customer Service Assistant).

Family Service & Children’s Aid CEO, Dr. Bob Powell and executive staff attended Old National Bank’s Ribbon Cutting Ceremony this morning. We welcome them into their new location downtown, and thank them for their generous donation to FSCA!

FSCA’s Annual Run for Fun took place on April 24th, and it is the first race in the Orthopaedic Rehab Specialists Race Series. The race began at the Grand River Brewery, and the rain held off till the very end. Congratulations Ben Utz for being the runner with the fastest time of 16:18! It has been a long year for our school based programs. Since last March, they have had to teach and provide services virtually. In the last few weeks, Ms. Shelly and Mr. Scott have been able to return to the class room for their eight day program for Jackson County High Schools and Middle Schools. This week they are at Hanover High School and Michigan Center Middle School. Their return to the classroom also means that the Take A Stand Project is back. This is where youth have the opportunity to make a statement as to why they do not want to use drugs or alcohol while still in school.
